BANDARANAIKE CENTRE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDIES - COLOMBO

The Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies, Commonly known as the BCIS, is the academic-wing of the S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike National Memorial Foundation, a statutory institute established under Act of Parliament No. 2 of 1975.

The BCIS is a non-profit, tertiary level education institute specializing in all aspects of international relations including training, research and advanced studies.

nnPanel Discussion on 'Religion and Conflict Resolution'

The Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) will conduct a specially designed training programme for the benefit new recruits to the Maldivian Foreign Service. The Maldivian government is in the process of establishing a number of new foreign missions in the near future and the BCIS will play an active role in this endeavor by conducting a specialized training programme for Maldivian Foreign Service officers on International Relations and Diplomacy commencing on the 21st of June 2009. The programme is expected to go on till the 02nd of August 2009. Among the resource persons taking part in this training programme will be Prof. George Cooray, Mr. Nihal Rodrigo, Prof. W.I Siriweera , Mr. Palitha Fernando & Mr. Mohan Samaranayake.

Professsor Dhamma Vihari, Mr. A.R Surendra, President’s Counsel, Mr. Amjad Saleem, Country Director, Muslim Aid and Mr. Marshall Fernando, Director, Ecumenical Institute, while Prof. Daya Edirisinghe, Senior lecturer in Philosophy, University of Kelaniya was the moderator. International Relations Programme
The Centre boasts a history of 30 years and it is the pioneer institute in Sri Lanka in the study of international relations.



Conflict Resolution Programme
In collaboration with the United Nations University for Peace (UPEACE) is expected to form the nucleus of conflict resolution and peace studies in Sri Lanka with a view to networking the South Asian region under the Asia Pacific Programme of the UPEACE


A number of language courses are conducted by the center with a view to fostering and promoting friendly relationships among Nations.



English Language Training Programme has been established to help people working in the private, public and semi-government sectors upgrade their abilities to use English for professional purposes.


The Sri Lanka Youth Parliamenentis a youth led, youth run initiative,SLYP Logo
whose aim is to mobilize and create a network of young people to bring about positive and sustainable change to issues that affect youth and their communities in Sri Lanka.
