International Relations

The Certificate course creates an opportunity for the school leavers, undergraduates, public/private sector employees, members of the Armed Forces and Police to acquire the basic knowledge necessary to join in or switch over to the fields of Foreign Service, Foreign Missions, NGOs and INGOs

These programmes are designed to develop among the candidates an understanding of the contemporary world. They are targeted at those who are interested in international affairs in general as well as those who seek to supplement the general education obtained through the school system. It will also provide personnel in different academic and professional fields requiring wider awareness of the current international situation with a background knowledge of areas of particular interest.

English/Sinhala/Tamil (Lectures will be in English and Sinhala only. The Tamil medium candidates shall attend the lectures and answer the class assignments either in English or Sinhala medium. However, they will be allowed to sit the final examinations in Tamil medium)

Final Examination prerequisite
80% lecture attendance in each and every subject will be an absolute must to gain admission to sit the final examss

Examination Criteria
Evaluation will be based on continuous assessments (minimum of two assignments per subject) plus final examinations in each subject.

Examination Fees
Rs. 200.00 for the full examination (local candidates)
US$ 10 for the full examination (foreign candidates)
Examination

Repeat Exams
Repeat exams will be held in every 06 months. Candidates who refer or fail in one or more subjects should re-sit the exam/s.
Only 3 consecutive attempts will be allowed to complete the exams.

Pass Marks
Every subject will be assessed at 100 marks. The assignments in each subject will have a 20% contribution (maximum) to the final examination in that subject.
The following grades will be assigned.

75% and above - A
60% - 74% - B
40% - 59% - C
30% - 39% - D
29% and below - E
The pass mark will be 40%.

Those who obtain marks between 30 – 39% will be referred.
Those who obtain 29% or less will be failed.

Note: The exact marks will be held classified and will only be indicated in official transcripts. However, the grades obtained in each course and the final result will be announced to the candidates at the end of the course.

Repeat Examination Fees
A fee of Rs. 200.00 from local candidates and a US$ 10 from foreign candidates will be charged per repeat subject.

Course Completion
Candidates must pass in all subjects. Those who fail in one or more subjects should re sit exam in the respective subject/s in order to complete the course and to be eligible for the award of certificate by the institute.Only 3 consecutive attempts will be allowed to complete the exams.

Award of Certificates
The certificates will be awarded to those who successfully complete the courses at an Award Ceremony to be held annually.
