Sri Lankan Youth Parliament (SLYP)

A network was created at the first sitting of SLYP held in August 2005.

225 young people from all around the country came together at this sitting and formulated action plans for social change, both individual and collective, numbering over 200, to be implemented over the two year cycle of action.The SLYP Secretariat, supported and managed by the BCIS, provides strategic support to these young people in implementing their action plans. The Secretariat is also involved in projects with various strategic partners, both government and civil society, at the national level, to increase youth participation in decision and policy making processes.read more

BCIS-Young Community Leader Awards (BCIS-YCL Awards)

This Awards ceremony is to recognize and reward the youth activists/young community leaders of the country who have rendered commendable services & vibrant leadership in the community development sphere.read more

Ambassadors for the Millennium Development Goals

A school network of students who works to build a strong relationship among the schools and the youth to work towards a common goal where every student, school, community share resources, facilities and benefits.

BCIS Youth Entrepreneurs

A joint effort with Young Entrepreneur Sri Lanka to create opportunities for the youth to have a on the job training on Business and establish them selves in the Business industry

 

Achievements

•Organized the first ever sitting of the Sri Lankan Youth Parliament.
•Appointed by the Ministry of Skills Development & Vocational Training to the Taskforce to draw up the National Action Plan on Youth Employment.  
•Selected by the World Bank office in Sri Lanka to represent the country at a South Asian Youth Organizations meeting with the President of the World Bank at New Delhi.
•Released the SLYP Communiqué, a report on the First sitting of the Sri Lankan Youth Parliament under the patronage of the Speaker of the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
•SLYP enjoys strategic partnership with the Oxfam International Youth Parliament based in Sydney, Australia. SLYP hosted a Global review meeting of the International Youth Parliament in Colombo in June, 2006.
•Coordinated the youth consultative process on the National Action Plan on Youth Employment by the Youth Employment Network Secretariat and the International Labor Organization.
•Consult the United Nations Fund for Population Activities in Sri Lanka to constitute a Youth Advisory Panel for the review of youth policies and programmes undertaken by this UN agency.

Youth Activists

We are promoting Volunteerism at BCIS and we encourage the youth who like to contribute something to the community and the country.

So in order to create opportunities for the youth who are willing to serve their community as a future leader, we are ready to offer them a space at our office as Youth Activists.

Anyone who's between 15 — 25 can apply for the post of Youth Activist by filling the application form.

An opportunity to participate in our Youth programmes as a participant/committee member,a service letter will be given for the Youth Activists.
